An expert on international humanitarian law and political affairs, who has worked around the world for the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and humanitarian non-governmental organizations, mainly in post-conflict zones where she gained extensive experience in peacebuilding.

She is a graduate of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California.
